This is the first logo of the three main magazines which I am going to base my music magazine on. As you can see from the picture above it is the logo for NME. NME stands for: new musical express. The main type of genres used in this magazine are Indie and Alternative. In relation to my magazine, it will invovle some of the bands used on a regular basis inside NME magazines.
Q is based around rock and everything rock has to offer. In the Q magazine all the interviews and artists all revolve around rock and roll. This is useful because I can look closely at this magazine and gather many ideas on what colour schemes to use and how to go around laying out my own personal magazine.
The genre of music which Kerrang is mainly all about is Rock and Heavy metal. As heavy metal is not my sort of music I am just going to research the fashion of heavy metal and try and use it on my photoshoots and on my models (for example, black heavy make-up being used - eyeliner.)
The three pictures above are the three main logo's for this genre in the music industry.
As part of my research for my media magazine, I have been browsing online looking at which genre has had the most sales in the years 2009-2010 so far. This would give me a clear notification on how well or how not so well Rock/Alternative/Indie music is being viewed by the general public. I have looked on many websites searched on http://www.google.com/ looking to find the most specific answers.
By doing this research online it is clear to see that the most popular genre for different years changes every single year. It is never the same genre two or three years in a row. There are probably many reasons for this and during my research I will try and find out why this is.
In the 1990's Indie/Rock music was around then and was a big highlight of the 1950's, the 1960's and early 1970's. Once finding out this, I found that I could place some of the 1900 dress style into my costumes for my models who are going to be on the front of this magazine or on the other hand I could try and involve some of the more typical instruments at that time which were; acoustic guitars, double bass, pianos, drums, banjos and violins.
I then went onto the website: http://www.youtube.com/ and looked at some Indie/Rock bands and picked out a few of them to place on here. It shows me how to style my band which I am going to photograph in a studio and also how to apply make-up to fit in with the genre which I am doing. It also lets me look at just what type of music is being played over and over again by the number of views which each video has on this website, it is a clear indication on just how well this genre is at this moment in time. From research I have done already before going onto Youtube, this genre is a big success already.
The Veronicas above are performing one of their most famous songs. As it is an acoustic version it does not really fit in with my genre but I personally like the style of the two girls on this video. The way in which they are wearing sun glasses it also just adds a fun factor. The styling of this band is one I am going to consider for my photoshoot.
All Time Low are a perfect example of a band which I want to use on my magazine for my photoshoot. The gene for this band is Rock/Indie which is related in with this magazine. The boys are styled like properly link a band by all having nearly the same colour scheme etc, and also as there hair is long also and ruffed up fits properly in with this genre.
